AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT
Congress passed a civil rights bill in 1990 for the disabled which has jurisdiction in the workplace. It is called the Americans with Diabilities Act (ADA). The law firm of Tarshish Cody PLC is experienced in protecting the legal rights of the disabled. Call 952-361-5556.
A disability is defined in the law as “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity.” For example, under the ADA employees are protected against:
- Employer discrimination against qualified employees with disabilities.
- Disabled people who are denied full access to public transportation.
- Those with disabilities who are denied full accommodations to public facilities such as restaurants, swimming pools, school, with supportive services such as ramps, elevators, restrooms, etc.
- Those who have hearing, or speech impairments and are denied access to telecommunications equipment.
