Minnesota Severance Attorney

Severance

Although employers are not required to provide terminated employees with severance packages, if your employer has provided a written severance agreement during employment, an employee’s legal rights may be involved.

Severance typically involves money, vacation or sick pay, stock options, and new employment placement assistance. Employees should always discuss in detail their own severance benefits package with their employer. Employers may require employees to waive certain of their legal rights in exchange for receiving a severance compensation.

Employers who refuse to honor severance agreements with an employee or leverage their severance contract to pressure an employee from accepting future work opportunities or other financial benefits, may be subject to a lawsuit.
