HOME HEALTH CARE AND NURSING FRAUD

Home healthcare providers agree to provide a specific number of visits monthly and deliver specific care services to their patients in the home. Clients affirm that these visits and services were provided with a signature on a form.

Some fraudulent home healthcare providers ask their patients to sign multiple forms at the first visit and then fail to revisit during the rest of the month. These forms are then submitted for payment to Medicare or Medicaid agencies.

Nursing home providers similarly may engage in fraudulent practices by billing Medicare and Medicare for phantom services or treatments never provided to patients in the nursing home. Federal and state laws were passed to encourage whistleblowers who become aware of these fraudulent practices to step forward and make disclosures.
