Minnesota Acetabular Fracture / Hip Fracture Attorney
The ball and the socket of the hip is formed by the femur and acetabulum. Accidents such as car, truck or slip and falls can cause acetabular or hip fractures if high impact was involved.
Treating a Hip Fracture
Surgery for an acetabular fracture should be completed by an acetabular orthopedic surgeon to ensure fewest complications and proper fracture alignment. An acetabular fracture is quite a complex injury so it is recommended that surgery takes place within a week after the injury.
The fracture fragments are cleaned, the fracture is realigned and stabilized with plates and screws during the 3-6 hour surgery.
Complications
As with any surgery, there are complications with an acetabular fracture surgery, including:
- sciatic, femoral or superior gluteal nerve injury
- pneumonia
- osteoarthritis
- destruction of articular cartilage
- deep vein blood clots
- infection to the wound
If you have been in an accident and are suffering from a traumatic hip fracture due to another person’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, physical therapy and lost wages.
