Minnesota ACL Injury Attorney

When a knee takes a swift blow or the leg experiences intense pressure and twisting, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries will commonly occur.  In a car collision, the knee may hit the dashboard, door, window or even the roof of the car and experience significant trauma which can be excruciatingly painful.

If the ACL tears it can be quite painful but the knee will keep its stability and bear weight.  Alternatively, when the ligament ruptures, you will experience severe pain and lose complete stability of the joint.

If you believe you have injured your ACL, a doctor will order an x-ray or MRI in order to diagnose the injury correctly, however if extensive pain and swelling is present in the knee, an early diagnosis will not always be possible.  Surgery is recommended to treat a torn ACL reduce the development of arthritis in the knee and chance of tearing your meniscus.

Regardless of surgery, recovering from an ACL injury can take many months, involve wearing a supportive brace and you will need to undergo some physical therapy to regain strength and movement in the knee.

As with any serious injury, an ACL injury can cause you financial strain, depression, inability to work and re-adjustment of settling back into a normal lifestyle.  Fortunately, if your injury was due to another person’s reckless behavior, you have the right to claim compensation against them to pay back those expensive medical bills and lost wages.
