Minnesota SLAP Tear – Labral Tear Attorney

A Superior Labral tear Anterior to Posterior (SLAP) tear occurs when the glenoid labrum is separated at the tendon of the biceps muscle from the front to back.  This kind of tear is commonly seen in many slip and fall victims or those involved in car accidents.

An MRI contrast is used to confirm a SLAP tear, however this contrast injection has been known to cause some risks, including allergic reaction, dizziness, shortness of breath, blood clots and kidney damage.  Because of these associated risks, doctors are able to diagnose the injury at the time of surgery.

Recovery from a SLAP tear requires surgery either by an open incision or arthroscopic.  An open incision allows more visibility for the surgeon while arthroscopic has a lower chance of infection and a shorter recovery time.

Physical therapy is required with either type of surgery.  Recovery time can be 3-4 months before the shoulder feels normal, depending on the extent of the injury, treatment and success of physical therapy.  It is not uncommon for some SLAP tear injuries to take up to 12 months to recover completely from the surgery.

It is important to seek medical attention immediately if you have sustained a SLAP tear because without proper healing and treatment, you could permanently suffer from chronic shoulder pain.
